We host free events including competitions, special topics, and workshops.
Looking for inspiration for class projects? Interested in a special topic such as design thinking? Want to learn more about pitching? Are you prepping for a competition? Do you want to add to your set of skills for a job interview? If you have answered yes to any of these, be sure to check out our line-up each year of innovative experiences.
Looking to raise funds for your new venture? We encouraged graduate and undergraduate students to pitch at one, or all, of our competitions. We host an Idea Pitch Competition and the Bob Mark Business Model Competition every year. We also collaborate with Central Michigan University so our students can compete at the New Venture Competition. Competing students can win thousands of dollars worth of prizes each year.
Drop-in for one, or all, of our free workshops available to all students campus-wide.
- Our workshops include special topics related to innovation and entrepreneurship.
- We designed the programs to help prepare students for all the stages of their innovation’s development.
- Each workshop builds on the other and provides a good foundation to compete at both the Bob Mark Business Model Competition and CMU’s New Venture Competition.

Husky Innovate Events
The College of Business, Office of Innovation and Commercialization, and Pavlis Honors College, bring you the Husky Innovate Event Series — a succession of workshops and events that build on each other with the intention of guiding students through key phases of innovation or business development while emphasizing evidence based strategies for success.
Through participation, students will distinguish their résumé (or prepare to launch their own company), and will build knowledge, expertise, and confidence.
Students who challenge themselves to pitch their idea at either a national, state, or regional competition will find that the Husky Innovate track provides a solid foundation for their goals. The workshops and events emphasize experiential learning and provide the opportunity to get feedback from peers and mentors.
Innovation Talks
Drop-in for an inspirational talk during your lunch hour. Husky Innovate hosts regular innovation and entrepreneurship presentations and panel talks that are open to Michigan Tech students, faculty, alumni, and the larger community. Hear from entrepreneurs and innovators from a variety of backgrounds. Our talks educate, inspire, and encourage those leading innovations.
The Alley Makerspace
Become a maker. The Alley Makerspace offers free access for students, faculty and staff to tools and to coaches to help you create. Innovators and entrepreneurs may use the space to develop a prototype and test their idea. The Alley Makerspace was conceived and developed by University Innovation Fellows trained in the design thinking process through Stanford's international University Innovation Fellows program. Located in the basement of the MUB, this pace offers the tools, resources, and environment to create.
