Welcome to Summer Conferences at Michigan Technological University!

Michigan Tech Residential Living offers summer housing for a variety of groups in Hillside Place. Whether you are planning a conference, a camp, or even a family reunion, we encourage you to consider us for your housing needs. 

Michigan Tech is nestled within the picturesque Keweenaw Peninsula in Houghton, Michigan and is just a few miles from Lake Superior. Steeped in history, it has many popular attractions, including the Mineral Museum of Michigan, Keweenaw Peninsula, Mine Shaft & Rock House, making it well worth a visit.

Downtown Houghton

Minutes from downtown Houghton, guests have ease of access to local pubs and eateries, quaint storefronts and conveniences. Relax and enjoy some time exploring this town's unique history and charming atmosphere during the beautiful UP summer!

Catch a movie at the local theater, deep dive into our area's rich history at one of the museums, enjoy delicious baked goods from our local farmers market or go shopping for handcrafted and locally made keepsakes at the numerous shops in the area.

A Scenic Escape to Nature

If getting away from it all is more your thing, a short drive up the peninsula will bring you to magnificent overlooks such as Brockway Mountain Drive, practically endless biking and hiking trails and the awe-inspiring Copper Harbor. The highly prized thimbleberries, along with blueberries and raspberries, are abundant in the Keweenaw mid-summer so be sure to stop along the way and find some delicious treats! 

If you are feeling adventurous, take a tour through the Keweenaw's historic Quincy Mine, located just a short drive from Michigan Tech campus, or enjoy a bike ride on the seemingly endless miles of world-class outdoor recreation trails. 

Regardless of your interests, Michigan Tech provides the ideal location to do it all!

Comfortable Lodging Accommodations

Hillside Place is our newest state of the art residence facility on campus. Each fully furnished suite offers four private bedrooms, two 3/4 bathrooms, kitchenette and living room. Guests will have stunning views of the canal either directly from their rooms or from the lounges located on each floor. 

Each guest of a group reservation will be assigned a single bedroom within a suite. Each room has one extra long twin bed (which will be in a lowered position, not lofted, when guests arrive), one dresser, and Wi-Fi internet access. A maximum of four people from the same conference may be assigned to each suite. 

Linen sets are prepared in each room upon guest arrival and will include bedding, towels wash cloths and toilet paper. No other toiletries are provided. Guests are encouraged to bring their own kitchen utensils if they plan to use the kitchen. 

Hillside Place offers affordable and comfortable living quarters during guest stays. With picturesque views of the Keweenaw Peninsula centrally located to downtown and nature, there's no better place to stay!

Dining During Your Stay

Wadsworth Dining Hall is available for guest dining during their stay!

The Food Hall at Wadsworth is happy to provide a wide variety of dining options to you and your guests during your stay. Meals can be purchased in advance during the reservation process. 

Summer Dining Hours: 

  • Monday-Friday
    • Breakfast: 7 - 9 a.m. 
    • Lunch: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.
    • Dinner: 4 - 6 p.m.
  • Saturday and Sunday
    • Continental breakfast: 10 a.m. - 11 a.m. 
    • Lunch: 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. 
    • Dinner: 4 - 6 p.m.

Reservations

To make a reservation for a conference, the conference coordinator should contact Residential Living at housing@mtu.edu to determine space availability. There is no fee to hold space for a future event or conference. The conference coordinator may request to hold space starting in October for the following summer. 

Reservations can be made for dates between mid-May and July 31. Guest reservations must be for a minimum group size of four people and must be a minimum stay of three nights or more to qualify. 

We assign billing to the group's designated conference coordinator. During the reservation process, you will be able to designate this individual and provide billing information. 

Guests can complete their check in at the Wadsworth Front Desk during business hours (Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.) or at Transportation Services on weekends or weekdays after 4 p.m. Check-out can be completed at the Wadsworth Hall Reception Desk before 12 noon on the last day of your stay.
