By participating in a Michigan Tech Summer Youth Experience, you took the first step
to securing your future. Your week on campus began your college experience and provided
an enriching environment. Now is your chance to use that experience and apply for
the Summer Youth Scholars Award.
Award Value
Between 10 and 15 applicants each year will be awarded a Summer Youth Scholars Award
valued up to $4,000 per year.
Incoming first-year undergraduate students who participated in a Michigan Tech Summer
Youth academic program can apply for the Summer Youth Scholars Award. Both Michigan
and non-Michigan residents are encouraged to apply.
- Students must apply for admission and have all application materials submitted to Michigan Tech by December 1.
- Complete the Summer Youth Scholars Award application by December 1. Create an account using your personal email address and set your own
password. If you have already set up your Application Portal or applied for Michigan
Tech scholarships, log in to your current account.
- Submit an essay addressing the following topic: "Please tell us how attending Summer
Youth Programs inspired you or your goal for the future. How did the experience impact
you personally and professionally?"
December 1: Summer Youth Scholars Award applications are due by 11:59 p.m. (eastern time). You must also have a completed application
for admission on file by this date.
Mid-January: Award recipients and applicants are notified.
Scholarships are renewable for the students' first four semesters of full-time regular
enrollment. Scholarship recipients must maintain a cumulative grade point average
of 2.50 at the end of each spring semester. Scholarships are renewable for additional
semesters for students who are active participants in the Mind Trekkers student organization
and meet the Mind Trekkers membership policy. Continuous full-time undergraduate enrollment
(12 credits or more) and acceptable social behavior must also be maintained. Students
are eligible for the award for eight semesters of undergraduate study.
