Duplication Services | Van Pelt and Opie Library

Materials from the University Archives' physical collections may be duplicated for use in research and publication. The archives maintains the Copper Country Historical Images database (CCHI), from which patrons may freely download low-resolution images to their computer. Patrons may also order high resolution duplications from their CCHI account.

Once a duplication order is received and acknowledged by staff, patrons may make payment by calling (906) 487-2505 with a credit card number or by mailing a check to the Michigan Tech Archives at 1400 Townsend Dr, Houghton, MI 49931. Michigan Tech departments may also pay by providing an index number.

Most orders require 7-10 business days to process. A rush fee is available at double the pre-tax order cost (2 business days to delivery).

Note: Photocopy orders of fewer than 20 pages are generally free of charge. The Michigan Tech Archives reserves the right to levy fees if staff deem that this policy is being abused.

Additional Fees and Charges Per Order

6% Michigan sales tax.

Will be waived with Michigan tax exempt identification number, for current Michigan Tech students, for Michigan Tech faculty and staff if requesting reproduction for university business, and for requests placed by federal government agencies

Requests for large photocopy orders are subject to this shipping fee.
Low-resolution scans will be provided via Google Drive link or email, depending on file size, without additional delivery fees.
High-resolution scans are delivered via Google Drive link without additional delivery fees.

Archives Duplication Policy

The following policies apply to use and duplication of photographs and other materials duplicated from the Michigan Tech Archives.

Before staff begin to process images, patrons will be required to sign and return our standard photographic agreement form, which stipulates your one-time use for these images and provides correct credit lines for use in publication.
Payment must also be received before staff will complete a duplication order.
While many patrons initially request images for personal research, patrons are required to request permission for any subsequent publication in advance of such use.
Subsequent use of images is only allowed with the completion of a separate photographic agreement.
Images are not to be copied or shared under any circumstances. A separate order must be placed.
Patrons are legally liable for any misuse of the digital images once they are provided.
In some cases, handling of fragile material may cause damage, and duplication may not be possible. Such decisions will be made at the discretion of staff on a case-by-case basis.
The archives is unable to certify photocopies or scans of documents in our holdings. Upon request, a notarized letter stating that the reproduced documents are true copies of the original items can be provided.
Photocopies or scans of items from the State Archives collections at Michigan Tech (i.e. Houghton County circuit court files including divorces or Gogebic County naturalization records) are free of charge at this time.
