Research Integrity strives to guide the Michigan Tech community to ensure adherence to the ethical principles and regulatory standards essential for responsible research and laboratory operations.
The Research Integrity (RI) staff work with faculty oversight committees and boards to promote the ethical and responsible conduct of research and to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements relating to research involving human subjects, animals, recombinant DNA, hazardous agents, laboratory operations, and research safety. The oversight committees supported by RI include the Institutional Review Board (IRB), the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC).
In partnership with these committee, RI leads:
- Continuing protocol reviews
- Monitoring and reporting
- Regular meetings for review of proposed and continuing research
- Training and educational programs for faculty, staff and students
- Maintaining the institution's assurances with the appropriate government agencies
- Submitting required federal, state and local agency reports
In addition, RI's Research Safety oversees and monitors research facilities, providing resources for safely working in the research laboratory or when conducting research in the field. RI oversees the deveopment and implementation of policies, procedures, and educational programs required by federal and state regulations governing the conduct of research activities involving human subjects, animals, recombinant DNA, and hazardous agents. RI reports to the Associate Vice President for Research Development.
