Opie Overnight Access
When the library is closed, enrolled students, faculty or staff can enter the library through the west side entrance by swiping with their HuskyCard. On the first floor, the two large reading rooms and vending machines are accessible and the entire second floor is now open including three instruction rooms (244 and 242 with workstations) and seven study rooms. Our overnight access is available 364 days/year with the exception of the Wednesday night of Winter Carnival.
Reading Rooms
The John and Ruanne Opie Library is a great place to study, meet friends, or just relax. The library is open 24/7 for Michigan Tech faculty, students, and staff, every night of the year except for the eve of Winter Carnival. The library consists of the East Reading Room and the Opie Reading Room, which frequently hosts scholarly talks and other events. Velodrome Coffee Company
Velodrome is a local Upper Penninsula-based coffee roasting company. They are located on the first floor of the library in an enjoyable space for studying, meeting with friends or grabbing a beverage or a bite to eat. For current hours see the library's hours of operation.
Student Lockers
The library rents lockers for enrolled students to use by the semester. The rental rate is $10 per semester.
Meditation Space
The library offers a space for quiet contemplation located on the third floor in the northwest corner of the building.
Mother's Room
This room is located on the garden level across from the oversize government documents collection. No key is required as the door locks from the inside and has an "in use" sign on the outside of the door and is available to all faculty, staff, students and library patrons.

Notary Services
The library offers free, limited notary services on an appointment basis. To set up an appointment, please fill out the Notary Services Form. Please note that no legal advice or assistance filling out documents is provided.
To prepare for your appointment, please remember:
- Plan on a 15-30 minute appointment when choosing your date and time.
- Bring valid photo identification with a signature, issued by a U.S. state or federal government.
- Do not sign your document ahead of time - it should be signed in the presence of the notary.
- If witnesses are required, please bring your own witnesses - the Library cannot provide witnesses for you.
- All blank spaces, with the exception of the signature, should be filled out prior to your appointment.
- Only documents in English can be notarized at the Library.
