It was a random “open seating” dinner on the Holland America Zaandam, as my wife, Marvel, and I (Frank Townsend, BSCE ’62) followed the waiter to a table. As we introduced ourselves to fellow seated passengers, one replied; he was from Michigan and his degree was in Metallurgical Engineering. I immediately thought, Michigan, + Metallurgical Engineering = MTU, so I exclaimed “Michigan Tech”? Of course! Bruce Agle, BSMET ’80 was celebrating his honeymoon on the cruise, and we, retired from Florida, were exploring and escaping the heat.
What a coincidence! Five years ago, Bruce formed 4XForensic Engineering Laboratories, Inc., which is now the largest in S. California (WWW.4Xforensic.com). Instant rapport, as Tech creates an immediate friendship!

Thanks, Frank: I love these kinds of stories. Of course, when you’re flying into or out of CMX, you usually know 3/4 of the plane. But this isn’t what I would expect on an Alaskan cruise! –Kevin
