It was a sea of black and gold as Michigan Tech alumni and friends packed the Garden Room for the pre-game socials at the 52nd Great Lakes Invitational Tournament at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.

Over $2,000 was raised from the hockey jersey raffle and the Dog House pickled eggs to support the Detroit Chapter student scholarship. Jersey winners were Gina Lepisto ’87 (Red Wings) and Jane Laird ’68 (Huskies).

Many thanks to volunteers Dan Madrid ’10, Kaylee Madrid ’12, Jason Nowak ’10, Nicole Nowak, Kelly Bailo ’84, Matthew Barkley ’06, Emily McDonald ’12, Mike Peterson ’85, Paul Szczesny ’82 Crystal ’11, Derrick and Zachary Verran.

Husky fans and the Pep Band cheered on the Huskies who advanced to the Great Lakes Invitational Championship Game for the fourth time in the last five years with a 2-0 shutout of Michigan on Thursday (Dec. 29).

Sadly, Michigan Tech fell 1-0 in overtime to No. 16 Western Michigan in the final game of the tournament.

The 53rd GLI will be held in the new Little Caesar’s Arena in Detroit.
