All the talk of SYP in the latest issue of the newsletter made me incredibly nostalgic! I attended as a participant for five summers, and after my first year of college was hired as a counselor for the Programs – a job I did for four summers. I attached a couple photos from July 2006. All of Houghton lost power for over a day and in order to feed everyone the staff put together a sandwich assembly line in a hallway of DHH. We made and delivered about 300 PB&J’s that night!

Hi,
I went to Michigan Tech the summer between my Junior and Senior year in High School for Summer Youth Program (SYP). I remember being so scared I wouldn’t make any friends. I went for Chemistry, but they had all groups hang out together no matter what course you were taking. There was this boy that I played euchre with that I liked. After SYP, I wrote him but I never heard back. In my Junior year of college, I transferred up to Michigan Tech for Chemical Engineering and whom should be in my classes, none other than the boy from SYP. We have now been married for 13 years and have 2 children! You’ll never know what you’ll find at Summer Youth Program!
Sincerely,
