The New EERC

EERC construction
New EERC.

I attended the Summer Youth Program in the summer of 1973 and I do not remember work being done on the new EE building, but my classes were in Fisher Hall (and the SYP lived in East Coed hall that year) so I may just not have noticed any work being done. I again attended the Summer Youth Program in the summer of 1974 and the new EE building was under construction at that time. We had our classes in the half of Hotchkiss hall that was still there. They had demolished part of Hotchkiss Hall, and I believe the new EE building was being built where part of the old building was and over part of a parking lot. I remember the steel work was completed at that time (there was a pine tree placed on the top of the steel work).

The EERC was open for classes fall of 1976 when I started my freshman year in EE. I was told at that time that we were the first classes to use the new building.

Dennis:
Graduating in 1976 gave my class the honor of being the last one to utilize Hotchkiss Hall (the former home of EE). The new EERC was built on a vacant lot between Hotchkiss Hall and what was then called the Bio-Chem Building. It would have been open for business in the fall of 1976. Any demolition of Hotchkiss Hall did not start before the summer of 76, after I was gone.

I “fondly” remember all the boxes of brand new lab equipment piled high in the hallways that we could not touch as it was all designated for the new building.
