Seulchan Lee joins Michigan Tech as an assistant professor. Lee holds a Ph.D. in Information and Operations Management and an M.S. in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M University, and a B.S. in Industrial and Management Engineering from Korea University, Seoul, South Korea.
COMPUTER SCIENCE
Serein Al-Ratrout joins Michigan Tech’s faculty as an assistant teaching professor. Al-Ratrout holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science/Software Engineering from DeMontfort University, Leicester, U.K., and a B.S. in Computer Information Systems from the University of Jordan, Amman, Jordan.
Wenbin Zhang joins Michigan Tech as an assistant professor. Zhang holds a Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, an M.S. in Computer Science from the Memorial University of Newfoundland, Newfoundland, Canada, and a B.S. in Computer Science from Beijing Forestry University, Beijing, China.
BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING
Muhammad Rizwan joins Michigan Tech as an assistant professor. Rizwan holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the National University of Singapore, Singapore, an M.S. in Bio-nano Engineering from Hanyang University, South Korea, and a B.S. in Metallurgy and Materials Engineering from the University of the Punjab, Pakistan.
CHEMICAL ENGINEERING
Kyle Griffin joins Michigan Tech as an assistant teaching professor. Griffin holds a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Biological Engineering and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, both from the University of Florida.
Jon Herlevich joins Michigan Tech’s faculty as a professor of practice. Herlevich holds an M.S. and B.S. in Chemical Engineering, both from Michigan Technological University. In addition, Herlevich earned an Associate Certificate in Project Management from George Washington University, and completed the Executive Leadership Program at the University of North Carolina.
CIVIL, ENVIRONMENTAL, AND GEOSPATIAL ENGINEERING
Jae Sung Kim joins Michigan Tech as an assistant professor. Kim holds a Ph.D. and M.S.C.E. in Civil Engineering, both from Purdue University; and an M.E. and B.E. in Civil Engineering, both from Korea University, Seoul, South Korea.
Yousef Mohammadi Darestani has been appointed as an assistant professor. He previously held a research assistant professor position with the University. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil/Structural Engineering from Ohio State University, an M.S. in Structural Engineering from Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, and a B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Tehran, Tehran, Iran.
Mohammadhossein Sadeghiamirshahidi
Mohammadhossein Sadeghiamirshahidi joins Michigan Tech as an assistant professor. Sadeghiamirshahidi holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from Michigan Technological University, an M.S. in Mining Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, and a B.S. in Mining Engineering from Yazd University, Yazd, Iran.
ELECTRICAL AND COMPUTER ENGINEERING
Flavio Bezerra Costa joins Michigan Tech as an assistant professor. Bezerra Costa holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, an M.S. in Electrical Engineering and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, all from Federal University of Campina Grande, Campina Grande, Brazil.
Tan Chen joins Michigan Tech as an assistant professor. Chen holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Notre Dame, an M.S. in Mechatronics Engineering from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, an M.Eng. in Automation from Ecole des Mines de Douai, Douai, France, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Automation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China.
Shane Oberloier joins Michigan Tech’s faculty as an assistant teaching professor. Oberloier holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Michigan Technological University and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Saginaw Valley State University.
Kaichen Yang joins Michigan Tech as an assistant professor. Yang holds a Ph.D in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Florida, and an M.S. in Engineering and B.S. in Information Security, both from the University of Science and Technology of China, Hefei, Anhui, China.
MANUFACTURING AND MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY
Nicholas Hendrickson joins Michigan Tech’s faculty as a professor of practice. Hendrickson holds an M.S. and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, both from Michigan Technological University. In addition, Henrickson earned a diploma in machine tool technology from Central Lakes College.
MECHANICAL ENGINEERING-ENGINEERING MECHANICS
Amir Hussain Idrisi joins Michigan Tech as an assistant teaching professor. Idrisi holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from United Arab Emirates University, U.A.E., and an M.Tech. in Computer Aided Design-Computer Aided Manufacturing and B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering from Uttar Pradesh Technical University, India. In addition, Idrisi earned a diploma in automobile engineering from Government Polytechnic, Bareilly, India.
Vinh Nguyen joins Michigan Tech as an assistant professor. Nguyen holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
Ye Qi joins Michigan Tech as an assistant teaching professor. Qi holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology, and an M.S. in Mechanical Design and Theory and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Automation from Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing, China.
Shangyan Zou joins Michigan Tech as an assistant professor. Zou holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics and M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan Technological University, and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Nanjing Forestry University, Nanjing, Jiangsu, China.
Stacy Cotey joins Michigan Tech’s faculty as an assistant teaching professor. Cotey holds a Ph.D. in Forest Science from Michigan Technological University, an M.S. in Biology from Northern Michigan University, and a B.A. in Biology and B.A. in Art from the University of Northern Iowa.
Chris Miller
Chris Miller joins Michigan Tech’s faculty as an assistant teaching professor. Miller holds an M.S. in Forest Management from Michigan Technological University and a B.S. in Agriculture Science from Illinois State University.
Lucas Nave joins Michigan Tech as a research associate professor. Nave holds a Ph.D. in Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology from Ohio State University and a B.A. in Biology from Wittenberg University.
James Schmierer joins Michigan Tech’s faculty as an assistant teaching professor. Schmierer holds an M.S. and B.S. in Forestry, and an A.A.S. in Forest Technology, all from Michigan Technological University.

Yan Zhang
Yan Zhang joins Michigan Tech as a research assistant professor. Zhang holds an interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Toxicology (primary) and Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, an M.Phil. in Pharmacology from Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, China, and a B.S. in Pharmacy from Sichuan University, Sichuan, China.
COGNITIVE AND LEARNING SCIENCES
Destaney Sauls
Destaney Sauls joins Michigan Tech as a visiting instructor. Sauls holds an M.S. in Psychology from Oakland University and a B.A. in Psychology from Point Loma Nazarene University.
HUMANITIES
Thomas Adolphs joins Michigan Tech’s faculty as an assistant teaching professor. Adolphs holds a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Technical Communication and an M.A. in Rhetoric and Technical Communication, both from Michigan Technological University, as well as a B.F.A. from Northern Michigan University.
Jason Archer joins Michigan Tech as an assistant professor. Archer holds a Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Illinois at Chicago, an M.A. in Communication from Wake Forest University, and a B.A. in Communication Studies from the University of Iowa.
Laurie Corbin
Laurie Corbin joins Michigan Tech as an adjunct assistant professor. Corbin holds a Ph.D. in French from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and an M.A. in French and B.A. in Comparative Literature and French, both from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Estela Mira Barreda
Estela Mira Barreda joins Michigan Tech as a visiting instructor. Barreda holds an M.A. in Early Childhood Education/Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Illinois at Chicago, a B.A. in Psychology from Universitat Jaume I, Castellón, Spain, and an associate degree in sign language interpretation from Centro Integrado Público de Formación Profesional Misericòrdia, Valencia, Spain.
Stephanie Rowe joins Michigan Tech’s faculty as an assistant teaching professor. Rowe holds an M.S. in Rhetoric and Technical Communication from Michigan Technological University and a B.A. in German and Environmental Conservation from the University of Colorado, Boulder. Rowe completed Michigan Teacher Certifications in German Secondary Education and Biology Secondary Education at Northern Michigan University.
Lisa Watrous
Lisa Watrous joins Michigan Tech as an assistant teaching professor. Watrous holds a Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Technical Communication from Michigan Technological University, and a B.A. in Communication Studies from Arizona State University.
KINESIOLOGY AND INTEGRATIVE PHYSIOLOGY
Kemmy Taylor
Kemmy Taylor joins Michigan Tech’s faculty as a visiting assistant teaching professor. Taylor holds a D.C. from the Palmer College of Chiropractic and completed an undergraduate degree in pre-medical studies at the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, and University of East Anglia, Norwich, England.
MATHEMATICAL SCIENCES
Robert Schneider joins Michigan Tech as an assistant professor. Schneider holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Mathematics, both from Emory University, and a B.S. in Mathematics from the University of Kentucky.
Timothy Wagner
Timothy Wagner joins Michigan Tech’s faculty as an assistant teaching professor. Wagner holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Mathematical Sciences, both from Michigan Technological University, and a B.S. in Mathematics from Bob Jones University.
PHYSICS
Jaemin Yeom joins Michigan Tech as a research assistant professor. Yeom holds a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences, all from Yonsei University, Seoul, South Korea.
SOCIAL SCIENCES
Kathryn Hannum has been appointed as an assistant teaching professor. She previously held a research assistant professor position with the University. Hannum holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Geography, both from Kent State University, and a B.A. in Geography from San Jose State University.
Carolin Sjöholm
Carolin Sjöholm joins Michigan Tech as an adjunct assistant professor. Sjöholm holds a Ph.D., M.S. and B.S. in Economics, all from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden.
VISUAL AND PERFORMING ARTS
Terri Frew joins Michigan Tech’s faculty as an assistant teaching professor. Frew holds an M.F.A. from Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada, and a B.F.A. from the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, Canada. In addition, Frew completed a certificate of art fundamentals at Sheridan College, Oakville, Ontario, Canada.
Michael Maxwell joins Michigan Tech as an assistant teaching professor. Maxwell holds an M.F.A. in Interdisciplinary Media Arts and a B.A. in Radio, Television, Digital Media, both from Southern Illinois University.
Jeff Sherwood joins Michigan Tech as an assistant professor. Sherwood holds an M.F.A. in Theatre Sound Design from Purdue University and a B.F.A. in Theatre Design and Production from Oklahoma City University.
Laura Fiss joins Michigan Tech’s faculty as an associate teaching professor. Fiss holds a Ph.D. in English from Indiana University, an M.A. in Text and Book, University of Birmingham, U.K., and an A.B. in English and Music from Vassar College.
