Downstate Powerhouse: MTRI Celebrates Major Research Milestones

Michigan Tech Research Institute logo displayed on the main entrance to the building.

Earlier this month, the Michigan Tech Research Institute (MTRI) celebrated nearly two decades of research excellence with an open house at their newly renovated space in Ann Arbor. Since becoming Tech’s first major research institute with a physical presence downstate in 2006, MTRI has grown steadily and become well-known around the country for expertise in remote sensing research.

Guests at the open house included U.S. Rep. Debbie Dingell, Michigan Sen. Jeff Irwin and Michigan Tech partners from higher education, industry and government agencies.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to head this amazing staff, and for the solid, unwavering support from Michigan Tech,” said MTRI Director Susan Janiszewski. “People are at the core of our business. We will continue to attract and retain intellectually aggressive researchers, meaning the kinds of people who want to stay on the cutting edge.”

Celebrating Pride: More Important Than Ever

Pride Month, celebrated every June, is a time to honor the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community. It began as a commemoration of the 1969 Stonewall Riots in New York City, a pivotal event in the modern LGBTQ rights movement. Pride is a month filled with joyful parades, festivals and gatherings, and it's also a time to reflect on the struggles and triumphs that have shaped LGBTQ history.
