Announcing: The 2024-25 Rozsa Presenting Series

The Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts is delighted to begin announcing
its 2024-25 season, starting with the Rozsa Presenting Series. The series includes eight diverse and captivating events including a film created before your eyes, dynamic displays of human strength and side-splitting stand-up comedy, offering thrilling events for all.

1. Rozsa Soirée featuring Gina Chavez – Sept. 6
Kick off the season with a launch party fundraiser! The evening includes a silent auction, voting on the 2024/25 Concessions Feature and an exclusive backstage concert by Gina Chavez, a pop star hailing from Austin, Texas.

2. Sharon McMahon – Sept. 19
Affectionately dubbed “America’s Government Teacher,” Sharon McMahon is this year’s Van Evera Distinguished Lecture Series speaker. McMahon is a nonpartisan podcaster and former high school government and law teacher with over a million social media followers.

3. Hub New Music – Oct. 11
This distinct quartet of flute, clarinet, violin and cello is forging new paths in the music world. Expect a fresh, bold performance on the cutting and creative edge of classical music in this intimate McArdle Theatre concert.

4. Manual Cinema’s Leonardo! A Wonderful Show About a Terrible Monster – Oct. 19
This original film comes to life as Manual Cinema scores, performs, and projects the film in real time. Based on two Mo Willems books, "Leonardo!" uses hundreds of illustrated paper puppets, book pages, two-dimensional props, furry monster puppets and songs to bring Mo Willems' books to life. All attendees are welcome to join the IncredibleBank Monster Mash Party for added fun!

5. Holiday Nostalgia Night – Dec. 14
A joyful celebration for all ages that includes a multigenerational holiday party, a screening of a beloved classic holiday film and a post-film Holiday Nostalgia Night complete with trivia, music and holiday drinks.

6. Water Street Dance Milwaukee – Feb. 8 (Winter Carnival performance)
Recently named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch” and known for their cutting-edge performances that tour the globe, Water Street Dance Milwaukee will leave you breathless and inspired.

7. YAMATO: The Drummers of Japan – March 8
Witness the staggering display of physical strength that has captivated over 6 million people across 54 countries. Yamato performers push their limits, using their entire bodies to produce thunderous music that will leave you exhilarated by their high-energy and explosive performance.

8. Zarna Garg – March 22
Laugh the night away with Zarna Garg’s quick wit, relatable humor and fearless social commentary. This Indian immigrant mom turned stand-up comedy star is beloved by more than 2 million social media followers, has an Amazon Prime Special, and opened for comedy legends Tina Fey and Amy Pohler on their 2023-24 Restless Leg Tour.

Alpha Sigma Tau Chapter Honored with a National Award

Alpha Sigma Tau’s Beta Xi Chapter at Michigan Technological University was recently recognized by the National Organization for demonstrating excellence within the 2022-2024 biennium. Awards were announced at Alpha Sigma Tau’s 45th National Convention in Portsmouth/Norfolk, Virginia, June 20-23, 2024.

The Beta Xi Chapter was recognized with the Growth Improvement Award. The Growth Improvement Award is presented to chapters exhibiting significant efforts and improvement in membership recruitment. The chapter worked hard all year to recruit to their growth goal and total this semester.

Vice President of Member Development Andrea Endres and Director of Ritual Emma Wahlberg were present to accept the award. Growth Advisor and Beta Xi Chapter alumna Leona Parent Grzymkowski was also in attendance.

Additionally, Beta Xi Chapter alumna Lauren Bendes Warren won the Mary Louise Mandrea Doyle Panhellenic Award. This award honors individual members or chapters who have made outstanding contributions to the Greek cause on a campus, in a community, or to the National Panhellenic Conference through Panhellenic service. Lauren was also elected to serve as a Vice President on our 2024-2026 National Council.

The National Council leads the sorority in developing and meeting strategic initiatives. It consists of one President and five Vice Presidents, one of whom must be a collegian at the time of election. The Alpha Sigma Tau National Council congratulates the Beta Xi Chapter for their outstanding hard work, perseverance, and commitment to the sorority and their community.

Tech Football Ranked Fifth in GLIAC Preseason Poll

The Michigan Tech football team has been tabbed to finish fifth in the GLIAC Coaches' Poll, announced at Media Day on Monday (July 29) in Grand Rapids. The Huskies received 26 votes.

Ferris State claimed four of the seven possible first-place votes and totaled 46 points to narrowly hold an edge over Grand Valley State, who earned three first-place ballots and 44 total points. Davenport earned one first-place nod to be placed third in the coaches' poll with 38 points. Saginaw Valley State was tabbed just ahead of the Huskies with 30 points.
