Military Spouse Appreciation Day
Today (May 12) is Military Spouse Appreciation Day, which received presidential approval in 1984. This day is one of many days in observance of National Military Appreciation Month, which is celebrated annually in May. We appreciate the sacrifices of the nation’s service members, their partners and their families.
Military partners face unique challenges, such as separation due to military deployment, parenting alone and employment challenges when relocating.
Military spouses and others with relationships or associations with veterans have protection from employment discrimination under the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA). As a federal contractor, this is one of the equal employment regulations that Michigan Tech must comply with in order to continue receiving contracts from federal agencies. The U.S. Department of Labor's Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs created a Frequently Asked Questions website and released Directive 2020-01 to clarify federal contractors’ obligations to military spouses.
If you have any questions about our obligations as a federal contractor, please visit the Recruiting and Hiring Obligations tab on Equal Opportunity Compliance’s website.
