View the Husky Portal regularly

Visit the Husky Portal Status Page for announcements and access to important resources.

Check your Michigan Tech email

From this point on, most important updates will only be sent to your mtu.edu email address. Access your email through gmail.com or your Husky Portal and be sure to check for new messages often.

Complete your FAFSA

Head to fafsa.gov and include school code 002292. File as soon as possible (if you haven’t already) for the best aid opportunities.

Provide your Social Security number (SSN)

While not required when you applied for admission, your SSN is required for FAFSA filing purposes. If you haven’t provided it already, visit your Husky Portal or call the Admissions Office at 888-688-1885 to make sure your SSN is on file—this will avoid delays in processing your FAFSA.

Secure housing

First-year students: Submit your housing contract beginning in January for the academic year starting in the fall. All students, other than transfer students or commuting students living with a parent/guardian, must live on campus during their first year at MTU. See your Husky Portal for more information.

Transfer students: Submit your housing contract or secure off-campus housing as soon as possible. It is common for transfer students to secure off-campus housing 9-12 months in advance.

Explore on-campus housing options and learn more about residential living at Michigan Tech.

Choose a roommate

Once you submit your residence hall contract, you will be invited to use Roommate Matching to request a roommate you know or search for a best match. Find Michigan Tech on meetyourclass.com, create a profile, and start to meet other incoming Huskies.

Make plans for Orientation

Watch your Michigan Tech email for information about Orientation—participation is required for all new students. Local accommodations are limited, so make lodging reservations early if you have family members traveling with you.

Request your final transcript(s)

First-year students: An official final high school transcript showing final grades and graduation date is required within 30 days of high school graduation. Request your transcript through Parchment or contact your high school and request to have this document sent directly to the Admissions Office.

If you earned college credit as a high school student, contact the registrar’s office at the participating institution(s) and request that an official transcript with your final grades be sent to the Admissions Office at Michigan Tech.

Transfer students: If you completed additional college courses after applying to Tech, contact the registrar’s office at the participating institution(s) and request an up-to-date official transcript be sent to Michigan Tech’s Admissions Office. Courses will be evaluated for transfer credit. If you are using a third-party transcript service, such as Parchment or National Student Clearinghouse, please make sure to select “Admissions” as the destination.

Submit AP, IB, and CLEP scores

Your Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), or College Level Examination Program (CLEP) scores must be sent to Michigan Tech directly from the testing agency. Credit granted from another college based on your scores does not transfer. Visit the AP/IB/CLEP page for a list of scores needed to receive credit at MTU.

Complete course placement

Michigan Tech offers placement tests in math, chemistry, computer science, and modern languages to ensure you are beginning your coursework at the right level. See your Michigan Tech Guide and watch your Michigan Tech email for more information.

Submit your HuskyCard photo

Your HuskyCard will be your student ID and meal pass at MTU. Upload a photo through your Husky Portal to save time during Orientation.

Pay your bill

Watch your Michigan Tech email for a notification that your bill is available and pay by the due date to ensure your class schedule is not canceled.
