Arthur Sigel

Mr. Arthur R. Sigel received a Chemical Engineering degree from Michigan Tech in 1965. He was a member of Sigma Rho fraternity and was active with the AIChE Student Chapter. Mr. Sigel joined Goodyear in 1965 as a Process Engineer. In 1969, he joined Michigan Chemical Company. In 1973 he relocated to El Dorado, Arkansas to become plant manager of Michigan’s bromine and brominated products facility. By 1979, he returned to Chicago where he became manager of manufacturing for three plants.

Mr. Sigel became Vice President of Velsicol’s specialty chemicals group in 1980; he became President of Velsicol in 1984. Mr. Sigel, and four partners, bought out Velsicol’s specialty chemicals segment in 1986. Under Mr. Sigel’s leadership as President and CEO, Velsicol developed into a widely recognized specialty chemical company. In 1995, Velsicol expanded into Europe by privatizing a manufacturing facility in Estonia. In 1995 – 1999 Mr. Sigel served as an officer of the Chemical Manufacturers Association, now the American Chemistry Council, concluding as Chairman in 1998 – 1999. He previously chaired the Council of 100 and represented Velsicol on the CMA Responsible Care and Public Perception Committees. From 1986 – 1988, he served as an officer of Chemical Industry Council of Illinois, concluding as Chair in 1988.

He is a member of the Board of Trustees of Michigan Tech Fund, member of the President’s Club, Former President of Barrington High School Hockey Club, and former President of Our Savior Lutheran Church in El Dorado, Arkansas.
