Matthew Benzik

Matthew Benzik earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from Michigan Tech in 2015. Matthew joined the team at SLM Solutions in Wixom, MI as a technical service specialist, senior field service engineer. He is the first line of support for SLM Solutions working with customers on any machine issues they have and coordinating the escalation of field engineering issues to their engineering teams in Germany. He is also one of the last lines of support getting sent on site when there is a high visibility issue which requires a higher level of engineering support. Having the MET experience, Matthew feels he can give their engineering teams in Germany more detailed data to help solve problems quickly and efficiently.

Matthew states that the hands-on and applied experiences of the MET program allowed him to excel at his career being a service engineer in the additive manufacturing industry. Working in the laboratories and the MMET Machine Shop troubleshooting various tools and systems honed his critical thinking skills to solve complex problems quickly and define root causes in large multi-variable systems.

Since graduation, Matthew has been able to visit Michigan Tech to talk to different classes on additive manufacturing, specifically Laser Metal Additive Manufacturing and its place in the industry.

Matthew's career has led him to travel from everywhere to Seattle to Singapore, with some fun on the side including restoring and designing pinball machines—doing everything from design, manufacturing, writing, and software.
