- BS Chemistry 1997
After graduating from Michigan Tech in 1997 with her Chemistry degree, Nawana Lawson went on to earn her masters degree in Organic Chemistry from the University of Missouri, St. Louis. She worked in Missouri at Monsato as a formulation chemist for a while, before moving back to Michigan and working at Wayne State as a chemist. Nawana later was promoted to her current position as Hazardous Materials Specialist at Wayne State. “I have worked here for over 16 years and love working in the college environment. I have a son who's attending Michigan Tech in the fall and am excited to see him grow and love the campus as I did.”
Nawana is an active alumni and volunteer. “I believe it's important to give back whenever and however you are able. You never know how much of what you do impacts another human being, hopefully positively.”
“My most memorable experience was making lifelong friendships at Michigan Tech. Many people I met at Michigan Tech are still a part of my daily life and we have grown to become family. Our children are raised together and a few are attending college at Michigan Tech now also.”
“Michigan Tech prepared me to face challenges head on. College wasn't a breeze for me, I was challenged beyond my imagination, but the reward and feeling of accomplishment upon graduation was indescribable. In my career, I feel I can accomplish anything I set out to do because of my experience at Michigan Tech.”
