Why did you choose Michigan Tech?

I wanted to study electrical engineering. I was able to commute daily from my childhood home in Nisula. I received a scholarship.

How well did Michigan Tech prepare you for your career?

Very well, since I didn’t need to get a master’s degree for the jobs I had.

What was your first job after graduation and how has your career progressed?

As an electronics engineer at AC Electronics, an aerospace division of General Motors, in El Segundo, CA from 1961-67, designing electronic equipment for missiles and aircraft. Then at TRW Space and Defense (acquired by Northrop Grumman) in Redondo Beach, CA from 1967 until retiring in 1999, designing electronic equipment to control unmanned spacecraft for astronomy, communication, environmental monitoring, and classified projects.

Please tell us why you share your time, talent, and treasure to support Michigan Tech students and/or alumni or volunteer in your community.

I received a 4-year scholarship while attending Michigan Tech from 1957-61. In gratitude I have established an endowed scholarship fund at Michigan Tech. I have volunteered in various capacities at the two Lutheran churches where I’ve been a member, especially in property maintenance and renovation. My most serious hobby has been as investment manager of my life savings that provides modest support for Michigan Tech, my church, and many other non-profit organizations.
