Alumni Board Supporting Tech Traditions

As part of its mission of "Celebrating Traditions. Creating Connections," the Alumni Board of Directors is endorsing the newly created Michigan Tech Traditions Fund. Michigan Tech hosts numerous initiatives and events throughout the year, involving students, staff, and the local community including Winter Carnival, Parade of Nations, Spring Fling, and more! The new fund will support these extraordinary traditions that help build a unique college experience and create lasting memories for current and future Huskies.

Join the Alumni Board of Directors in celebrating the traditions that make Michigan Tech an exceptional University!

The Impact of Tech Traditions in 2024

  • 541 students participated in Make a Difference Day, volunteering more than 2,300 hours of service to the local community
  • Winter Carnival is Michigan Tech's longest standing tradition, taking place annually in February since 1922
    • There were 11 month-long statue teams, 45 all-nighter statue teams, and 12 special event team competitions
  • 57 countries were represented in the Parade of Nations
  • More than 2,000 students attended K-Day, a Tech Tradition since 1951
    • 95 percent of students responded they are more likely to participate in a Student Organization after attending
  • Afternoon on the Town was attended by 821 students, resulting in a 4.5 star rating
    • Following the event, 96 percent of students agreed they were more likely to visit a local business

K-Day is a fun day celebrated by Michigan Tech and the local community. Going out to McLain State Park was a great experience and vehicle to meet various organizations and lifelong friends during my freshman year. While living in a different state now, I still celebrate K-Day every year!
