Bicycling is a convenient, healthy, and sustainable alternative to driving to campus. Those who commute by bike save money on fuel, integrate physical activity into their daily routine, and spend less time in our Keweenaw traffic congestion. Bicycling to campus helps meet University goals by improving air quality through reducing energy consumption and single occupant vehicle commute trips.
Getting Started
With a little preparation, biking to campus can be fun. If you are just starting, set a goal to ride once a week, and once you learn how fun and easy it is, you can slowly begin riding more frequently.
Bike Registration
Public Safety and Police Services offers free bicycle registration for all students, faculty and staff bringing bikes to campus. Registration helps to ensure that bikes found without owners can be returned to the proper person. You should also consider purchasing a lock to ensure the safety of your bicycle while parked at a bike rack on campus.
Storing Your Bike on Campus
There are many ways to store your bike while on campus.
Locking Up Your Bike
Michigan Tech has bike racks available for campus and community members to use. Please store your bike in dedicated bike parking areas.
Storing Your Bike in the Residence Halls
Residents have the opportunity to store their bikes in hall storage over the winter. Between the damaging weather and snow plows, most students use this free storage option as opposed to hauling their bike home with them over breaks. Please reach out to the Housing Office for more information.
