Dr. Leann Nitschke M.D. graduated from Michigan Tech in 1984 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. She and fellow alum, Matthew Nitschke (‘84) married 3 weeks after graduation. They were married for nearly 31 years before Matthew’s passing in 2015. Chloe Looman' s path to a medical career includes heading up Michigan Tech' s Emergency Medical Services team. "I'm this year's captain of Michigan Tech EMS (Emergency Medical Services). Our agency certifies students and local community members to the EMT (emergency medical technician) level and in exchange, we volunteer as responders to the Michigan Tech campus and surrounding community. Our response time is mere minutes . . .

Mary received her bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences in 1983, a second bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1991, and a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1993. Following her "First" graduation, Mary worked as a high school math teacher in Stephenson, MI and then as a computer science teacher at Menominee High School.
