A part-time job is a great opportunity to develop transferable skills and make connections. In addition to earning money, you'll gain experience for your resume and stories to tell in interviews, even if your job doesn't seem related to your career. There are many opportunities available throughout the year, both on campus and in the community. Most on-campus jobs are open to all students, but there are some restrictions for federal work-study and for international students.
Work-Study
Work-study is a form of federal financial aid. Positions marked as work-study on Handshake and on the list below are reserved for those who have work-study as a part of their financial aid package. Students with work-study jobs will receive regular pay, which they can use toward their expenses. International students may work on campus, paid by Michigan Tech, up to 20 hours per week during the fall and spring semesters and up to 40 hours per week during the summer. International students who want to work in their field to gain experience must participate in a training program: Curricular Practical Training or Optional Practical Training for F-1 students and Academic Training for J-1 students.
