Purpose and Membership
The purpose of the Academy is to honor outstanding graduates and distinguished friends of the Michigan Tech Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geospatial Engineering. Election to the Academy recognizes excellence and leadership in engineering and civil affairs. Our membership is heavily invested in giving back to the University, students, faculty, and the community at large.
Impact
Most inductees have retained a close relationship with the Department, engaging with faculty as advisors, seeking input to solve problems, supporting acquisition of research grants and projects, and most importantly working with students as advisors or guest lecturers and other means. Other inductees have provided direct consulting to the university operations efforts, and/or made financial contributions to the Department either directly or by helping bring funds to the Department from others for many different purposes.
Membership Requirements
Nominations come from faculty and current Academy members based on a record of outstanding achievement in their field; demonstrated commitment to service and leadership in their profession; demonstrated commitment to service and leadership in their community; support of the CEGE department or university as a whole via demonstrated actions.
Academy Induction and Meetings
Induction ceremonies are held during the fall of odd number of years. Academy leadership meetings are held in conjunction with the Induction Ceremony. In even number years, meetings are held remotely.
Sustainability
Our framework summarizes how the Academy is organized and operates, outlines our key support activities, and demonstrates methodologies we’ve developed to most effectively support the department. The Academy process includes periodic Needs Assessments that are intended to focus our efforts where they will have the largest impact.
