Franklin D. Meyers, PE

Mr. Franklin Meyers completed his baccalaureate degree in civil engineering at Michigan Tech in 1957 and from there went on to work as an engineer for the Detroit Regional Planning Commission from 1960 - 1962. He then went on to be Chief Planner for the Macomb County Planning Commission and later joined the Inter-County Highway Commission in 1965. Following his retirement as Executive Director, of the Inter-County Highway Commission in 1985, Mr. Meyers initiated his own environmental consulting firm, F.D. Meyers & Associates.

Mr. Meyers was an active member of the American Society of Civil Engineers. He served as editor of the Michigan Civil Engineer for more than 32 years and received the Outstanding Civil Engineer of the Year Award from the Michigan Section in 1992. The Michigan Section has also established the Franklin D. Meyers Distinguished Service Award of which he was the first recipient. The Southeastern Branch of the Michigan Section of ASCE named him the Outstanding Civil Engineer of the Year in 1979; and in 2003 the Southeastern Branch announced that they have renamed the Outstanding Civil Engineer of the Year Award in his honor: The Franklin D. Meyers Outstanding Civil Engineer of the Year Award.

Frank was married to Carole Meyers for nearly 50 years and is the father of five children. Following his election to the Academy of Civil and Environmental Engineers in February, Frank passed away April 9, 2004. His son, David Meyers, accepted the award on his behalf.
