Mark R. Stumpf, EdD, PE

Dr. Mark R. Stumpf received his baccalaureate degree in civil engineering in 1965 and his masters degree in environmental engineering in 1967. During his student years, he served as Vice President of his junior class and was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity.

After graduation, he joined Amoco Chemicals Corporation designing wastewater treatment plants. Two years later, he joined Abbott Laboratories where he held numerous management positions including: Manager, Waste Control; Manager, Corporate Environmental Services; Manager, Project Engineering; Project Manager Cogeneration Puerto Rico; Director, Diagnostics Division Facility Engineering. In June 1990 he was promoted to Director, Corporate Plant Engineering Operations with responsibility for 1016 people and an annual operating budget of $234 million.

Over the years, Mark continued his formal education. In 1977, he graduated from the Advanced Management Institute with a Masters of Science in Management (ASM) degree. In 1980, he obtained his MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management. In 1988, he received his Doctor of Education degree from Nova Southeastern University where he specialized in expert systems.

Dr. Stumpf has been very active in the scientific, technical, and education community. He served as Editorial advisor for Pollution Engineering Magazine and taught courses in Operation and Maintenance of Treatment Plants, Wastewater Analyses, Process Design, and Computer Programming. He has published twelve papers in technical journals and has given several technical presentations at conferences. Dr. Stumpf was a guest at Ningbo University in the People's Republic of China, where he spoke on education in America.

After 27 years of service with Abbott Laboratories, Dr. Stumpf retired and is working as an Abbott Executive on Loan to Advancing Minorities Interest in Engineering (AMIE). As AMIE's Partnership Director, he has published a book on how to form effective partnerships with universities. He is currently working part-time developing partnerships for universities with Fortune 250 companies. Mark married Anne Collins from Chassell. They reside in McHenry, Illinois and have three children and two grandchildren.
