Charles Lingelbach

1917–2010
Mr. Charles Lingelbach, a native of Oconto, Wisconsin, began his career at the Haas Brewing Company, Houghton in 1934, understudying his father, master brewer Charles J. Lingelbach, Sr. After earning a degree in Chemical Engineering in 1939, he worked in the fermentation cellars of Pabst Brewing Company in Milwaukee. In 1940 Pabst sponsored his attending Wallersteins Brewing Academy in New York City to earn a certificate in brewing chemistry.
After service in the Army Air Force, he became the first Research Associate of the Institute of Paper Chemistry, Appleton, Wisconsin in 1945. In 1948 he joined Marathon Corporation’s commercial development department as a Specialist for the Baking Industry. He became the Manager of Marathon’s Commercial Development in 1960. After American Can’s acquisition of Marathon, Mr. Lingelbach became Manager of Film Market Development.
In 1970, he and two partners started Ling Products in Neenah, Wisconsin. When the George Banta Company of Menasha Wisconsin Acquired Ling Products in 1982, Mr. Lingelbach continued as President, CEO and Chairman of Daniels Packaging Company in Hendersonville, North Carolina and Rhinelander, Wisconsin. In 1989 Mr. Lingelbach became a consultant for Sargento Cheese Durlam Division, Appleton, Wisconsin, retiring in 1997 with the sale of the company.
In retirement Mr. Lingelbach has volunteered his time to the Appleton Medical Center Foundation, the Visiting Nurse Association, and the (VNA) Hospice Foundation. In 1992 his devotion to Hospice Patients earned him the honor of the Rotary Paul Harris Fellow and the “Wonderful Person” Award by the Appleton Women’s Club. He is an active member of the Appleton Medical Center Auxiliary Volunteer Services and a member of the Michigan Tech President’s Club and Board Member of University of Wisconsin Family Residency of Appleton.
