Key Responsibilities
- Leads initiatives that enhance community engagement and strengthen relationships with local, regional, national, and international partners in academia and the community.
- Works with external organizations to identify then address the needs of our communities locally, statewide, nationally and internationally.
- Identifies and pursues new opportunities for university growth through strategic collaborations congruent with institutional goals.
- Represents Michigan Tech in external partnerships where appropriate, ensuring engagement efforts contribute to the university’s reputation and long-term impact.
- Works in collaboration with senior leadership to expand partnerships that support faculty scholarship, interdisciplinary initiatives, and funding opportunities.
- Strengthens MTU’s status as a Research One (R1) institution by building and maintaining, and where appropriate leading, high-impact partnerships.
- Facilitates memoranda of understanding with academic institutions to expand educational pathways and research collaborations.
- Provides support for faculty, students, and staff to engage in partnerships that contribute to the university’s mission and public service efforts.
- Leads initiatives to promote a welcoming and vibrant campus environment, fostering student success and professional development.
- Oversees campus-wide events, symposiums, and speaker series that are designed to elevate Michigan Tech’s engagement efforts locally and globally.
- Develops sustainable funding strategies to support community engagement, student success, and other university initiatives.
- Supports the expansion of professional development programs to enhance faculty and staff expertise in external engagement.

- Earn recognition as a Community Engaged university by the Carnegie Foundation.
- Track and report university activities related to community engagement.
