Biography

Philart's research areas encompass HCI, HRI, Auditory Displays, Affective Computing, Assistive Technologies, Aesthetic Computing, and Automotive Interface Design. His research has yielded more than 150 publications across top peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Now, he is editing a Handbook of Affective Sciences in H/F and HCI. He received his PhD from Georgia Tech in Engineering Psychology and HCI. Previously, Philart worked at LG Electronics and was responsible for all of their automotive user interface design and sound design. His research has been supported by NIH, DOT, MDOT, FRA, MTTI (Michigan Tech Transportation Institute) and industry partners. Philart serves as an Associate Editor of MIT Journal Presence and Affective Design Technical Committee of IEA (International Ergonomics Association). He has been actively working in international conferences as a session/program chair, program committee, and workshop organizer (ICAD, AutomotiveUI, HFES, CHI, MobileHCI, UbiComp, Persuasive Tech, etc.). In addition, Philart has led many other industry projects in collaboration with Toyota, Hyundai-Kia Motors, General Electric, Samsung Electronics, Equos Research, and Panasonic Automotive, etc. His works have been recognized by awards, such as the IF Communication Design Award, and the Korean Ergonomic Design Award as well as best papers in the flagship international conferences.
