What is your fondest memory of your time in the CS department?

As a student arriving at the CS department in my 30s, with prior experience at other college settings, I was delighted and blown-away by the access to the caring facility in the CS department. Their interest in my success was key to gaining a toehold and progressing through the program.

How has your education impacted your career?

My education has been absolutely critical to my career. The CS department's industry ties helped to get my foot in the door first as an intern, then full-time after graduation. A team coding element to one of my CS classes opened my eyes to how we all bring something different to the table. I've reflected back on that time, and again when working with other Amazonians and partners organizations.

I think MTU in general, and the Computer Science department in particular, has developed a wonderful environment for people to learn and take the next step in their careers. I'm very thankful for my time there.

Before Matt retired, for 10 years he participated in the CS1000 Alumni Assignment project where alumni correspond with first-year computer science students and answer questions they have about the school, the program, the industry, or just life in general at Michigan Tech.
