Vice President of Utilities, Retired

What is your fondest memory of your time in the CS department?

Michigan Tech is a great place to go to college. My fondest memories are of being able to meet and talk directly with the professors and faculty. The advice I received from them was invaluable in helping me not only complete my education, but to provide the gateway for success after college. I have stayed in touch with some of the faculty to this day, as they have become life long friends.

How has your education impacted your career?

It was not until I was well into my career that I fully understood how well Michigan Tech prepared me for a successful career. Throughout my career, I was able to take on assignments with confidence, tackle tough problems, communicate, and lead. I noted that in the companies I worked, other Michigan Tech graduates were nearly always the top performers and leaders.

Randy Berry recently retired from Open Systems International as Vice President of Utilities.  Prior to that, he worked in a number of fields involving embedded systems and control systems. Most of his career was spent applying technology to the electric grid to improve reliability, resiliency, and affordability.

Randy is a member of the College of Computing External Advisory Board and a 2023 inductee to the College of Computing Honor Academy.

"Without reservation I can recommend Michigan Tech as the university of choice for anyone who is looking for an excellent education and a gateway to success."Randy Berry '82
