The Late-Drop Policy is in place to protect the academic process. In order to drop a class after the established deadline, you must have clearly extenuating circumstances that prohibit you from completing a course. All requests for late drops and supporting documentation must be submitted prior to the last day of regular instruction, i.e. end of week 14, for that semester.
Extenuating Circumstances
Extenuating circumstances may include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Car accident
- Sudden injury or illness (Doctor’s office/hospital documented)
- Birth of a child
- Death of a family member
- Conditions of close friends (suicide, accident/injury)
- Divorce (individual or parent)
Non-Extenuating Circumstances
Non-extenuating circumstances include the following:
- You forgot to drop the course, or you were not aware of the course-drop policy.
- You spent too much time on University extracurricular activities.
- You wish to avoid a poor grade.
- You are changing your major or transferring to another school.
- You don’t need the course to graduate.
