Student Work Opportunities

The Department of Engineering Fundamentals is looking for undergraduate and graduate students to assist instructors in year engineering courses. Applicants should have good communication and leadership skills, as well as a working knowledge of the subjects being taught.

Positions are available every semester.

LEAP (LEarning with Academic Partners) Leaders

As a LEAP leader, you will be responsible for mentoring 24 students in a section of a first-year engineering course (ENG 1001, ENG 1100, ENG 1101, or ENG 1102). You will attend class, assist your students with questions and activities, and grade their assignments. You will plan and facilitate a weekly LEAP session to help students tackle the challenging topics in the class. Training will be provided to help you facilitate and plan these sessions appropriately in ENG 2060, which you will take your first semester as a LEAP leader.

The LEAP leaders this semester have been meeting weekly to learn additional facilitation techniques, to debrief after sessions, or to plan for upcoming sessions. The time commitment for this has been approximately 11 hours/week.

Teaching Assistant and Grader

Teaching Assistants attend the lectures, assist the instructor in answering questions during lab/work time, and grade home assignments. In addition, they should have completed their 1st year engineering courses or equivalent.

Graders correct homework assignments in a fair and timely fashion. In addition, graders should have strong knowledge of the course topic.

First-Year Engineering Support

The Engineering Fundamentals Learning Center provides assistance (Dillman 208) with day-to-day course homework and concepts in ENG1001, ENG1002, ENG1100, ENG1101, and ENG1102. Coaches are also available to help with NX and MATLAB as well as any class projects.
