Welcome to Michigan Tech Engineering Outreach! Chances are you are either considering engineering, or encouraging someone who is. We want to help you succeed.

We happen to think engineering is a truly excellent choice. As an engineer, you will have the power to make a difference . . . money and job security . . . talented colleagues . . . a wide range of career options . . . and creative, inspiring, often life-changing, work.

Our society is becoming increasingly complex. We must provide more food, water and energy for a rapidly growing population, and we must limit damage to the environment in the process. Engineers will play a key role in meeting these challenges. You can, too!

Summer Youth Programs

Michigan Tech's Summer Youth Programs (SYP) is not your ordinary summer camp! SYP offers over 50 different career and adventure explorations for grades 6-11. Learn new software, rappel down a cliff, fly an airplane, cast molten metal, build a robot, produce a film, or backpack on an island. . .the opportunities are endless! It's also a great chance to experience college life at Michigan Tech. Stay on campus, or commute.

SYP offers more than 20 different engineering, science, technology, and computing explorations. Learn about the Engineering Scholars Program, Women in Engineering, and the National Summer Transportation Institute. Check out the full menu or apply for an SYP Scholarship.

Program Highlights

SYP offers three competitive scholarship programs for high school freshmen, sophomores, and juniors: Accepted students receive a scholarship valued at over $1,000, covering tuition, room and board, and supplies.

1) Engineering Scholars Program and 2) Women in Engineering are both weeklong investigations of engineering and science for traditionally underrepresented students. Explore engineering careers in areas such as mechanical, computer, environmental, electrical, chemical, biomedical, civil, geological, materials, and related disciplines. Get the inside scoop from industry role models and interact with a diverse group of peers from all over the country and world.

3) National Summer Transportation Institute is a two-week residential program that allows students to explore today's top transportation industries. Learn about planes, trains, ships, and automobiles through cool hands-on activities and group projects, and study local and regional hotspots.

Design Expo

All are welcome at the Design Expo, a showcase of education-in-action at Michigan Tech. Student teams from Michigan Tech Enterprise and Senior Design programs present their projects and compete for awards. Discovery-based learning, interdisciplinary teamwork, design and innovation, leadership and entrepreneurship, research, working with industry—all are evident in the 100+ projects on display. A panel of judges comprised of University faculty members and corporate representatives critique the projects. The event is open to the public.

Get WISE

Middle school girls spend the day exploring the excitement of science and engineering fields each February during the annual Get WISE (Women in Science and Engineering) day at Michigan Tech. The event, coordinated by the Youth Programs office, brings more than 250 sixth, seventh, and eighth graders from 15 local schools to campus for a day of hands-on activities, talks with female role models, and more.

Open House and Preview Day

If you are thinking about attending Michigan Tech as an undergraduate, don't miss these two campus-wide events hosted by Michigan Tech's Admissions Office. Both events include the opportunity for interested students and families to take special/expanded tours of all eight engineering departments, and meet engineering faculty and current students.

Open House takes place the first weekend in October each year. All are welcome. Come check out majors and life at Michigan Tech during the Tech Showcase. Interact with faculty and students. Learn about admissions, scholarships, and residence life. Tour the campus. Have brunch in the residence halls. Visit our world-class labs. See exhibits and demonstrations, and more. Preview Day takes place the last weekend in March each year. It is designed specifically for accepted students and their families. Choosing the right college for you is important. What opportunities are you looking for—what lies ahead? Enjoy information sessions, meet and talk with faculty, staff and current students, explore campus, and much more.

MiCUP - Michigan College/University Partnership Program

MiCUP is a seven-week summer program at Michigan Tech for community college students who want to pursue a bachelor's degree. Live on campus and complete an internship with a faculty member and graduate students. Enroll in a university-level course. The program includes academic tutoring and comprehensive advising. Participating colleges include: Delta College, Grand Rapids Community College, Wayne County Community College Districts, and Keweenaw Bay Community College.
