International students have a special set of aid available to help make attending Michigan Tech more affordable. If offered employment, international students should report to International Programs and Services.
Scholarships
- The International Ambassador Scholarship is available for incoming first-year undergraduate students who are citizens and residents of countries other than the United States.
- Students are automatically considered for these awards after they are accepted for admission to Michigan Tech.
- Awards can range from $11,000 up to $14,300 per year.
- The Alumni Legacy Award is available for incoming undergraduate students who are non-Michigan residents and are the children or grandchildren of Michigan Tech graduates.
- Students may indicate their eligibility through the admission application process.
- Award grants recipients the Michigan resident tuition rate (valued over $20,000 per year).
- The J. Edgar McAllister Scholarship is available for citizens or permanent residents of Canada.
- Application is due by May 1.
- Awards can be up to $15,000.
- The FIRST Scholarship is available for incoming first-year undergraduate students who have actively competed on a FIRST Robotics Competition, FIRST Tech Challenge, or VEX Robotics team during their high school career.
- Application and essay are due by March 1 of student’s senior year in high school.
- Awards can be up to $4,000 per year.
- The Summer Youth Scholars Award is available for incoming first-year undergraduate students who previously participated in a Michigan Tech Summer Youth academic program.
- Application and essay are due by December 1 of student’s senior year in high school.
- Awards can be up to $4,000 per year.
- The College of Business Dean’s Award is available for incoming undergraduate students who are non-Michigan residents and are pursuing a major in the College of Business at Michigan Tech.
- Students are automatically considered for these awards after they are accepted for admission to Michigan Tech.
- Awards can range from $2,000 up to $20,000 per year.
- Sponsored scholarships are created through the generosity of individuals and organizations for incoming or continuing students.
- For most sponsored scholarships, all students are automatically considered for the awards for which they are eligible. But there are some sponsored scholarships that require a separate application.
- Athletic Grants are awarded based on athletic excellence to students selected by Michigan Tech coaches to participate in varsity athletics.
- Awards are variable up to the value of full-time tuition and fees, room and board, and a book allowance.
Loans
- Alternative Loans from banks or other lending institutions are available for parents or students who meet the lender’s eligibility criteria.
- An application is required to be considered, and some lenders may require a cosigner.
- The amount a student or parent can borrow is variable up to the student’s cost of attendance, less any other financial aid the student has.
Employment
All students, regardless of financial need, may apply for part-time on-campus student employment. Students can apply directly to the desired departments after arriving on campus.
Off-campus employment opportunities are available for students in the local community.
