Alan Stevens

Al was able to attend Michigan Tech due to a tuition scholarship and graduated with a BS in Geological Engineering in 1966. After working for Chevron Oil Company in California for one year he returned to Michigan to help his ill father and at the same time worked for Northern Michigan Exploration Company in Jackson, Michigan. He returned to Michigan Tech in 1970 and completed an MS in Geological Engineering before joining Humble Oil Company (now Exxon) in New Orleans, Houston, and Stavanger, Norway before leaving for Tenneco Oil Company in 1978 as General Manager of their North Sea Activities. In 1983 Al was promoted to Exploration Manager for the Pacific Coast Division, and after Tenneco was sold in 1989 went to work for Occidental International Oil and Gas Company as manager of Far East Exploration, ending up as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Exploration in 1994. In 1998 he joined Southwestern Energy in Houston, TX as President and Chief Operating Officer rebuilding the company’s operations before retiring in 2003; in 2010 was elected to their Board of Directors.
While at Michigan Tech, Al was active in Sigma Rho Fraternity, Sophomore Class President, member of the student council, and Blue Key Honor Fraternity.
