Welcome, MAHLE Employees!
Technology is evolving. And it is paramount that the future engineers, innovators,
and leaders of the world evolve with it. One way to keep pace with technology is by advancing your education.
Just as MAHLE is committed to innovation, sustainability, and shaping future mobility,
Michigan Tech has long been dedicated to helping mold engineers and thinkers who create
dynamic solutions to solve tough problems, and who enthusiastically meet the challenges
of advanced technology head on.
Therefore, Michigan Technological University and MAHLE are collaborating to eliminate
obstacles that prevent prospective students from pursuing higher education. Our organizations
are partnering to offer a limited number of fellowships, which will make advanced
learning more accessible and tuition more affordable. These fellowships will allow
students to pursue online graduate certificates or degrees at Michigan Technological
University.
Our shared goal is to create opportunities for MAHLE employees so that they can accomplish
the following:
- acquire in-demand knowledge, skills, and training
- take greater ownership over their professional development and education
- open up new paths for internal advancement, leadership opportunities, increased responsibilities,
and career mobility
- honor the purpose, ambition, and values of MAHLE

Explore the Top Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs).
1
Who is eligible for this program?
Employees of MAHLE who already have an undergraduate (bachelor's) degree are eligible
for this fellowship. They must also be new MTU students who will be applying for one of Michigan Tech's online graduate programs.
2
Are corporate partner students located outside of the U.S. eligible to take online
classes?
Yes, but with some exceptions. Due to the complex nature of federal regulations concerning
certain countries, Michigan Tech is currently unable to offer Global Campus courses
to students located in the countries listed below.
Also, please note that because this list is informed by federal policies and regulations,
it is subject to change.
- China
- Cuba
- Iran
- North Korea
- Russia
- Sudan
- Syria
If students move to another location than those listed above, they are welcome to
apply to our programs. For students located in all other countries outside the U.S.,
we approve applications on a case-by-case basis.
3
Are Michigan Tech fellowships available for corporate partner students working in
the U.S. who are not U.S. citizens?
Yes, fellowships are available for corporate partner students working in the U.S.
who are not U.S. Citizens. However, it is imperative that any non-U.S. citizen student
who accepts fellowship funds from Michigan Tech’s Global Campus first seeks guidance
from an immigration attorney, visa advisor, and/or tax professional. They must do
so because of the potential limitations on fellowship funds for specific visa types
and associated tax considerations.
Each student is responsible for ensuring compliance with their respective visa status.
4
How do I apply for this fellowship program?
MAHLE employees must first apply to the fellowship itself. Then, they must use Michigan
Tech's standard graduate application processes to be considered for their program of choice. These fellowships,
which are limited to 50 at one time, are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
5
What do these fellowships cover?
The fellowship covers the cost of tuition only. For instance, recipients must still
pay for fees, books, (the rest of) tuition, and other costs.
6
Is the $8500.00 offered per calendar year? Or per academic year?
The fellowship is offered per academic year. Also, Michigan Tech bills by semester.
7
Is this fellowship taxable? That is, will I have to claim it as income?
Rules differ between organizations, so please check with your employer regarding whether
this fellowship is taxable.
8
Will my company help with tuition?
Along with receiving a fellowship, you may be eligible for tuition reimbursement from
your employer. Please check with your employer regarding your eligibility for their
tuition-assistance programs, important deadlines, and so on. Find out what you need to do and when you need to do it.
9
Are fellowship recipients eligible for other awards?
Students receiving these fellowships are not eligible for any other Michigan Tech
institutional aid, which includes but is not limited to fellowships, grants, athletic
aid, tuition discounts, and foundation awards. However, students may still access
other forms of funding outside of Michigan Technological University. For instance,
we encourage you to also apply for the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) if you need extra help funding your education.
10
Are there any programs excluded from these fellowships?
No! At the moment, there are no graduate programs excluded from this fellowship program.
In fact, there are several online graduate programs from which to choose. However,
please check with your employer or HR representative regarding which graduate programs
are eligible for tuition assistance from your organization.
11
How do I maintain my fellowship?
To continue to receive your fellowship, you must meet these criteria:
- maintain continuous enrollment in your online program
- uphold Michigan Tech Graduate School's academic standing
- remain employed by MAHLE (your employment will be verified annually by both Michigan
Tech and MAHLE)
12
What is the difference between a graduate certificate and an MS degree?
A graduate certificate is a 9 (or sometimes 12) credit program that helps you build on your undergraduate degree, such as by adding
a focus area or a specialty. A master's degree, on the other hand, consists of 30
credits. Many students choose to stack graduate certificates to create their customizable
master's degrees. Alternatively, you may earn graduate certificates along the way
while pursuing your master's program.
13
What are the requirements for applying to these programs?
Graduate certificates require a proof of an undergraduate degree. However, for master's
degrees, applicants require a CV/Resume, transcript/proof of their undergraduate degree,
short statements (personal and student), and other documents. For more information
about master's program requirements, check out the Graduate School requirements as well as the right sidebar on the page of your program of choice.
14
Do I need a GRE or GMAT score to apply?
Great news! Applicants do not need GRE or GMAT scores to apply.
15
Do I need letters of recommendation to apply? If so, how many? And from whom?
The programs differ on their requirements, but most require two of these letters.
If you’ve been out of school for awhile, these letters don’t have to be written by
a former professor. That is, they could come from your employer or manager as long
as they can verify your credentials and state your suitability for your online program.
16
Are there language proficiency requirements for international students?
Yes, there are. Michigan Tech requires a minimum TOEFL score of 79 or an IELTS score of 6.5.
17
How do I calculate the cost of the tuition for my program?
18
Who will help me with the fellowship process?
We have a small but mighty team who is ready to help you and get you through the application
process as quickly as possible. We recommend you begin with Amanda, who is very familiar
with the corporate education fellowship process. You can reach her at 906-487-1000
and/or make an appointment on her calendar.
19
Will I have access to academic services if I am attending online?
Yes, all Michigan Tech students have access to the university's helpful services,
such as academic advisors, library resources, career services, and financial aid advisors.
Whether you're attending online or on-site, you're still a Husky, a valued member
of the Michigan Tech Community!
20
Will I have to pay back the fellowship if I don't maintain the scholastic requirements
of the grad school?
No. If you don't maintain scholastic requirements, you will not have to pay the fellowship
back. However, you will be no longer eligible to receive it.
