Write-D, Writing in the Discipline, provides a dedicated time and space for graduate students to get work done and receive support on writing projects within their discipline, such as manuscripts, research proposals, etc. so that writing skills are enhanced progressively throughout the program. Guest speakers from Michigan Tech departments or the industry visit to briefly present research, writing, and publishing tips.
"My writing improved from Write-D. We received many suggestions from multiple professors and postdocs in our department regarding the best way to begin and finish writing our research papers, proposals, thesis etc."
The sessions provide:
- disciplinary instruction in writing by departmental faculty, as needed
- a social network in their department for working through writing challenges
- a quiet, dedicated space and time to write
- a platform for learning about writing in their discipline
- training in goal setting and monitoring
Having groups meeting for writing sessions can help your students generate better writing and complete their degrees on time.
Current Write-D Groups
"Writing over a sustained period of time, rather than cramming it into a few days before the document is due is more developmentally sound."
