The Global and Community Engagement Conference was held on Saturday, October 14, 2023,
in the Memorial Union Ballroom and lunch was provided to all participants. The conference
is open to anyone interested in the development, design, and discovery of people and
communities! The theme for 2023 was "The Power of Partnership".
The 2023 conference featured keynote speaker Dr. Bonnie Keeler. Keeler works at the intersection of sustainability science and environmental economics,
with particular expertise in water management and policy.
Conference Keynote Speaker - Dr. Bonnie Keeler
Bonnie Keeler is an associate professor and Charles M. Denny Chair of environmental policy at the
Humphrey School of Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota. Keeler’s research
evaluates the equity implications of environmental policies at state and regional
levels, with a focus on water resources science and management. Keeler co-directs
the Center for Science, Technology and Environmental Policy at the University of Minnesota
and serves as a subcommittee member of the Environmental Protection Agencies Board
of Scientific Counselors. Keeler also directs the Beyond the Academy Network - a coalition
of academic leaders seeking to reform university structures to promote more action-oriented
engaged scholarship on sustainability. Keeler is also the lead of a new $10 million
dollar technical assistance center based at the University of Minnesota designed to
serve rural, remote, and disadvantaged communities across EPA Region 5 access federal
energy and environmental improvement funding.
