The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) is a federal law that provides eligible employees with up to 12 weeks of unpaid job protected leave in a 12 month period with continuation of group health insurance for a specified event or qualifying exigency.
Employees are eligible for FMLA leave if the employee has:
- worked for Michigan Tech at least 12 months; and
- has at least 1250 hours during the 12 month period immediately preceding the start of the leave; and
- has not already used the entire 12 week FMLA leave entitlement during the 12 month period
