Sending your son or daughter to a university abroad is an important decision that affects your whole family. We understand.
International Programs and Services and Michigan Tech view students as young adults in the process of becoming responsible, accountable, and capable individuals. We respect their growing independence, and we hold them accountable for decisions they make.
One of the most important things parents and guardians can do is continue to support their students through mentoring and coaching on making wise, responsible decisions.
These Resources Can Help
Dean of Students
The Dean of Students Office serves all Michigan Tech students in ways that allow them to be successful in academic and personal endeavors. Students can even make an appointment to have coffee with the Dean (she buys!)— it is her goal to personally meet every incoming student. The office provides services including academic mentoring and counseling.
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
Student education records are protected by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the federal law that mandates the privacy of student records. Students must decide who may have access to information about them through the online Michigan Tech Guest Access System.
Faculty and staff are not permitted to discuss academic progress or financial matters with parents, guardians, or financial supporters without the student’s permission. However, parents, guardians or spouses can request the student’s login information from the student if necessary, or ask the student to give permission for access through the Guest Access System.
Student Bills
Students view their bills and can make payments electronically through their MyMichiganTech accounts. Paying for tuition is the student's responsibility. If the student has a credit balance, the refund is provided to the student, not to the person who paid the bill. Please refer to Student Billing for complete payment/billing information.
