Biography
Dr. Lawrence Sutter has over 40 years experience in materials characterization, concrete-making materials, and concrete durability. Much of his research has focused on the use of various recycled and secondary materials including fly ash, blast furnace slag, and municipal solid waste incinerator ash. He also has performed numerous studies on the effects of deicing chemicals on concrete.
Dr. Sutter also holds numerous leadership positions within the industry including serving as a Fellow of ASTM and Member of Committees C01 (Cement) and C09 (Concrete). He is Chairman of ASTM Subcommittees C01.14 (Non-hydraulic Cements), 9.24 (Supplementary Cementitious Materials), and C09.65 (Petrography) and is a member of numerous other subcommittees. Larry is also a Fellow of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) and serves as Chairman of Committee 321 Durability Code, Vice-Chairman of Committee 232 on Fly Ash and Secretary of Committee 201 Durability. He is a member of ACI Committees 130 (Sustainability), 201 (Durability), 221 (Aggregates), 239 (Ultra-high Performance Concrete) and also serves on the EAC (Educational Activities Committee). He is also a member of ACI Committees 130 Sustainability, 221 Aggregates, 233 Slag Cement, 239 Ultra-high Performance Concrete, 240 Natural Pozzolans, and 242 Alternative Cements. Dr. Sutter is a registered Professional Engineer in Michigan.
