What does it mean to be a Michigander Scholar?
Michigander Scholars are students at selected universities in Michigan with unique access to events, programming, and scholarships related to careers in the automotive industry. Specific programs vary by campuses and generally include seminars, networking events, and internships.

Michigander Scholars:
- are Michigan Tech sophomores, juniors, seniors, and graduate students majoring in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Network and System Administration, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, and related programs.
- want to learn more about the EV, mobility tech, and semiconductor industries.
- are interested in a job as a computer engineer, electrical engineer, process engineer, software developer, or related position.
- agree to participate in required Michigander Scholars activities.
Michigander Scholars scholarships are awarded to students accepting qualifying internships or jobs with participating core employers on a first come, first served basis. Specifically:
- $5,0001 will be awarded to qualified students who accept an internship with a Michigander Scholars core employer in Michigan and commit to completing the full internship.
- $10,0001 will be awarded to students who accept a full time position with an Michigander Scholars core employer in Michigan and commit to remaining in the role for one year.
- Michigander Scholars may be eligible to receive up to, but not more than, $10,0001 in scholarship awards.

In general, Michigander Scholars will:
- manage their job application and interview process directly with the employer. The Michigander Scholars program does not facilitate the job application process.
- formally accept the job or internship offer with the employer.
- report acceptance of the offer to the Michigan Tech Career Services office and the Michigander Scholars program coordinator.
- sign a letter of intent stating acceptance of the role and the intent to meet the scholarship's requirements.
Once the above steps are completed, funds will be disbursed (on a first come first serve basis) through the University's scholarship office.

Exact timing should be clarified with the Michigan Tech financial aid office, but typically once eligibility has been verified through the process outlined above, the funds will be disbursed to your student account as quickly as possible.
A qualifying student may receive up to $10,0001, either through a single $10,0001 scholarship or through two scholarships of $5,0001 each.

As long as the accepted internship or job is 1) with a Michigander Scholars core employer, 2) located in the state of Michigan, and 3) in a position related to those listed, then the internship or job is eligible for the scholarship.
The core employer group of companies with operations in Michigan have been critical partners in designing the Michigander Scholars program. These employers have committed to investing resources towards the future of the automotive industry , thus not every role will be immediately applicable to EV, mobility tech, or semiconductors.
Yes. International students are welcome and encouraged to participate in Michigander Scholars program. Eligibility to apply for individual internships and full time positions will be dependent on individual employers.
