Create the Future is more than a mission statement at Michigan Tech—it’s a call to action, and our students responded. Come see for yourself at the 18th annual Design Expo on Thursday, April 19.

What do a vaccine transport container, a Mars gypsum rover, and the Split Snurfer—a bindingless snowboard that splits into skis, have in common? They’re all undergraduate student projects on display at the 18th annual Design Expo at Michigan Technological University.

At Design Expo, you can explore the breadth and depth of undergraduate innovation, from more than 1,000 students from Michigan Tech’s Enterprise and Senior Design programs. More than 100 projects will be on display—from a Near-Shore Emergency Rescue Device (NERD) to an optical camera for autonomous vehicles, and nearly everything in between.

Projects and posters will be judged throughout the day by a panel of corporate representatives, invited guests, and University faculty, staff, and graduate students. Many projects are sponsored by industry. Design Expo event sponsors include ITC, ArcelorMittal, Black & Veatch, Code Blue, Miller, OHM, Plexus, Ford Motor Company, ATC, and Kimberly-Clark, as well as Michigan Tech's Innovation Center for Entrepreneurship (ICE), and the Michigan Tech Office of Innovation and Commercialization.

Michigan Tech’s Enterprise Program is open to all majors. It focuses on interdisciplinary learning, leadership development, and team-based work. Diverse teams of first-year through graduate-level students develop products, processes and services within their market space, with multi-year participation.

Senior Design challenges teams of highly dedicated students to explore and address real-world design challenges in their final year. The program connects students and industry sponsors who work on full-cycle projects, with teams  performing the complete design process from ideation to realization.
