Michigan Technological University's School of Business and Economics announces incoming student Victoria Cameron as the 2019-20 Impact Scholarship Competition recipient.
Cameron, who hails from Petoskey, Michigan, will be awarded full in-state tuition
to a business major for four years (eight semesters).

The Impact Scholarship is an annual competitive award recognizing business majors
and leaders at Michigan Tech. Twenty-one high school senior finalists participated
in leadership activities on campus and received Impact awards.

Cameron, a senior at Petoskey High School, credits the friendly feel of Michigan
Tech’s campus as the driving factor in her college decision. “My mom’s friend encouraged
me to look at Michigan Tech’s business school. When I visited, I instantly felt at
                           home,” she says.
The first in her immediate family to attend college, she gained inspiration from her
father, a former Green Beret in the US Army, and her maternal grandfather and great-grandfather,
who served in the British Army. “Serving my country feels like one of the noblest
things I can do. I want to continue my family’s legacy,” Cameron says.

In addition to her general business studies, she plans to become a cadet in the Michigan
Tech Army ROTC program. “I love working out and I’m a morning person. The ROTC program here is phenomenal.”

Cameron has been a competitive swimmer for more than 10 years and is also on her
high school’s varsity tennis team. She has honed her leadership skills by mentoring
                           younger athletes.

Cameron aims to bridge her passion for military service with her strength in analytics
to pursue a role in military intelligence. She knows Michigan Tech’s STEM-fueled business
degree will help her reach her goals. “Going into the competition, I was nervous,
but meeting my future professors helped me to feel prepared for my next chapter as
                           a Husky,” she says.

Joe Cooper, director of the Michigan Tech Student Financial Services Center, affirms Cameron’s potential: “During the on-campus competition, Victoria’s leadership
skills were described as confident, positive and decisive. She is an example of a
well-rounded student leader who will be an excellent ambassador for business programs
                           at Michigan Tech.”
