Michigan Technological University Adopts Peer-based Engagement Platform for Prospective College Students: MeetYourClass

08/20/2024

Michigan Technological University, a leader in higher education growth and innovation, is partnering with MeetYourClass (MYC) on a GenZ-friendly approach to college enrollment, student engagement and community development.

MYC is a social media platform for prospective college students, integrated directly with the social media platforms that students already use on a daily basis. Over 400,000 students have organically adopted the MYC to meet their prospective classmates, find roommates, and discover their community, which is an increasingly important driver of enrollment decisions for GenZ students.

Through MYC, students can engage with each other and learn about the Michigan Tech community via Michigan Tech Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok accounts customized for specific incoming classes. Through the partnership with MYC, the university gets improved channels for communicating with students, understanding their interests and meeting their needs throughout the enrollment process.

“In a world where free educational resources are abundantly available online, today’s students are increasingly basing their enrollment decisions on who they will have the opportunity to meet and where they will fit in the best,” said Jonah Liss, chief operating officer for MeetYourClass. “Learning about a university’s academic, extracurricular, and campus offerings is relatively easy, but we see an underserved market for building peer-based connections. Students heavily engage on platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok from the day they get phones to long after graduation, so it is no surprise that these are also the platforms they prefer using when trying to meet their class. MeetYourClass helps students meet on their preferred platforms in a safe and efficient way, all while allowing universities to tap into valuable insights they would otherwise miss out on.”

Navigating college admissions and enrollment decisions is complicated for today’s students. MYC helps facilitate the digital Michigan Tech experience and build community before students even step foot on campus. Through this effort, Michigan Tech expects to increase student engagement and better understand which students will enroll for Fall 2025 and what is driving their enrollment decisions.

“Our incoming students consistently tell us that what they seek in a college education is twofold: to get a degree that pays them back, and to have a great college experience,” said Kyle Rubin, Michigan Tech’s associate vice president for enrollment management. “Because Michigan Tech provides both of these things to our students, we’re one of the select few universities who have seen consistent growth during an era of declining college enrollment nationwide. We’re excited to see how MeetYourClass will help us serve our students as they become Huskies.”

The Michigan Tech Class of 2029 pages are now live on MYC. New high school seniors can begin exploring everything the university has to offer and meeting fellow students interested in attending Michigan Tech.
