Phi Kappa Tau Takes the Crown at Winter Carnival 2025
The winning statue, "In Search of a Maiden So Fair, Our Hero Enters the Dragon's Lair," showcased craftsmanship worthy of a royal court and earned Phi Kappa Tau top honors, according to Michigan Tech's chapter of Blue Key National Honor Society, the Winter Carnival organizers. Blue Key announced the 2025 snow statue winners in the afternoon on Thursday, Feb. 6. MTU Class of 2024 Celebrates Midyear Commencement
The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Varsity Gym of the Student Development Complex. The SDC will open at 8:30 a.m. for ticketed guests, and free parking is available on a first-come, first-served basis in Lot 22 adjacent to the SDC and Lot 24 near the football field. Tickets are required to attend the commencement ceremony. Guests are encouraged to check the campus map for accessible parking locations. This continues Tech's steady trend of growing enrollment, marking the largest student body on campus since 1982. Undergraduate enrollment has seen a significant boost, up by over 2%. Jennifer Becker Honored with Faculty Distinguished Service Award for Environmental and Public Health Initiatives
As the COVID-19 pandemic began, Jennifer Becker's dedication to protecting public and environmental health motivated her to develop and lead a SARS-CoV-2 wastewater testing program at Michigan Tech. Becker, an associate professor in Tech's Department of Civil, Environmental, and Geospatial Engineering, faced numerous challenges, from establishing effective testing protocols to securing necessary materials and recruiting skilled students for the project. Despite these obstacles, the program successfully monitored and managed COVID-19 in Michigan Tech's residence halls. Becker's ability to adapt and innovate in response to these challenges was instrumental in the program's success. Michigan Tech Named a Best Value College for 2024 by The Princeton Review
The Princeton Review named Michigan Technological University as one of its Best Value Colleges for 2024 on June 20. The education services company reports seven categories of ranked lists. Among the nation’s public colleges and universities, Michigan Tech was named No. 2 on the list of Best Schools for Internships, No. 9 for Best Career Placement and No. 18 for Best Schools for Financial Aid. Q&A with Teaching Award Winner Charles Wallace
Charles Wallace is a professor of computer science and serves as the associate dean for curriculum and instruction in Michigan Tech’s College of Computing. He studied linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania and the University of California before earning his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Michigan. His diverse experiences as a computer scientist, linguist and software developer drive his research on improving human understanding, construction and usage of software.
