Mind Trekkers is Michigan Tech’s traveling science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) road show. Mind Trekkers festivals feel like a science carnival, with music, food, and hands-on discovery-based learning.
The Center for Educational Outreach advises a student organization with over 200 active members. Undergraduate and graduate student volunteers create activities that showcase the fun side of STEM. Mind Trekkers has created and attended festivals from coast to coast since its creation in 2010.
To fund events, the program partners with industry on a festival-by-festival basis. Major partners include Dow Chemical, Lockheed Martin, Chevron Energy, NASA, Mercury Marine, Bemis, Kohler, and many more. In 2014, Mind Trekkers became the official traveling festival of the USA Science & Engineering Festival.
By creating and attending festivals in 10 states, Mind Trekkers has generated enthusiasm for STEM learning for tens of thousands of pre-college students.
