In support of Policy 1.12, Representing Safety in Photographs, the following is a list of standard personal safety equipment guidelines for representing in photographs typical activities in various types of laboratories or work areas. Any questions should be directed to the Office for Compliance, Integrity, and Safety.
Chemical and Biological Laboratory/Activities
- Safety glasses with side shields or chemical goggles (goggles are needed if activity depicts pouring fluids)
- Appropriate protective gloves, if the activity depicts handling hazardous materials
- Lab coat
Machine Shop, Automotive Shop or Mechanical Laboratory/Activities
- Safety glasses with side shields or face shield
- All jewelry must be removed
- If welding – proper welding attire
- Occupants must ensure that the appropriate machine guards are in place
Electrical Laboratory/Activities
- Safety glasses with side shields for activities involving soldering or rotating machinery
- If activity involves only wiring: for all circuitry over 50V a face shield and gloves are required
- All jewelry must be removed
Construction Site/Field Work
- Safety glasses with side shields
- Hard hat when appropriate
- Hearing protection when appropriate
