Beginning in Fall 2025, the Essential Education program will replace Michigan Tech’s current General Education requirements.
Undergraduate students who started at Michigan Tech prior to Fall 2025 may continue to follow the General Education requirements. These lists incorporate newly approved courses that will satisfy previous General Education requirements to support students completing their degree.
* Courses that are 1000 level or higher on the co-curricular list may now count as Free Elective Credit if not being used to satisfy the General Education Co-Curricular requirement.
* Students starting in Fall 2025 or later, should follow the Essential Education requirements.
2025-2026 Core and HASS Requirements—Humanities, fine arts, and social science courses.
2025-2026 Co-curricular Requirements—Physical activity courses.
2025-2026 STEM Requirements—Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics courses.
